Éagsúil; Varied, unlike, Different

The Show
Éagsúil is an arts and culture show that covers artistic and cultural events throughout the West Limerick region, and stretching to its hinterland, from North Kerry to Limerick city and also South-East Limerick. It aims to promote artists and events throughout this region.

The first programme that went on air in May 2005 was a special on the Fleadh by The Feale festival, with footage from the Street Busking competition and also the All-Ireland bone playing competition.

Since that inaugural programme, Éagsúil has gone on to cover a multiplicity of events, including the Listowel Writers Week, Éigse Michael Harnett in Newcastlewest, the Brendan Kennelly festival in Ballylongford, the Cuisle International Poetry festival in Limerick, the Kerry Film Festival and most recently the Unfringed theatre festival in Limerick.

It has also interviewed a huge variety of guests, including artists, musicians, actors, storytellers, writers, craftspeople and dj’s, amongst the most famous being 2003 Booker Prize winner DBC Pierre, who gave a reading at the Writers Week in Listowel.

The show features reviews of books, films and local plays and you too can have your review included by contacting us here at the station.

The music policy for the show is to have a varied mix of music - jazz, reggae, soul, blues, classical, hip-hop, funk, including locally recorded music. To date this has included recordings from the seisiúns in Templeglantine and songs from the West Limerick singing club in Abbeyfeale.

Despite the name, Éagsúil is not an Irish Language programme. Ba mhaith liom cúpla focail gaeilge a úsáid ó am go ham ar an gclár, afách, agus tá súil agam go mbeidh tuairisicí againn sa todhcaí, ar leabhair/scannán Gaeilge.

Lorcan

The show is presented by Lorcan MacCurtáin.

Other volunteers who have contributed to the show include David Browne, Mike Joe Thornton, Eileen O’Sullivan and Shirley O’Regan. A big thanks to Suzanne Rowley, whose invaluable technical expertise and general radio experience was instrumental to the early development of the show, and also a special mention to Eddie Guiry, AnnMarie Murphy, Tim Mulcahy and Danny Ahern who were extremely helpful in providing a direction for the show at the beginning.

Éagsúil new broadcast time on friday evening at 7pm. As mentioned above we would be delighted if anyone in the West Limerick area wished to review a new book they read, a film or play that they saw, a musician that they heard, a local festival that they attented etc.

Reviews would only have to be 3-5 minutes long and could take the form of a pre-recorded monologue or the reviewer coming into the studio live.
