The Classical Selection

The Classical Selection is a weekly one hour programme broadcast every Sunday morning from 9 - 10am ( Repeated Saturday at 12 midnight ) of excerpts from the classical music repertoire, concentrating on the better known pieces.

It is produced and presented by Ian Michael who lives in the Ardagh area of West Limerick.

The programme is made possible by the generosity of Mr. Dominic Slowey - a resident of the Rathfredagh Cheshire Home, who has, over many years, built up an amazing collection of recorded music (mainly classical) which he is happy to share with the WL102 audience.

Because of this resource (which would have been prohibitably expensive for a community radio station to obtain otherwise), Ian was able to put out 47 programmes in the first full year of broadcasting, featuring over four hundred different pieces of music.

The aim of the programme is to introduce the music to a listenership (many of whom would not be used to hearing the classics) by presenting it in a friendly, inclusive and non academic manner.

The classical selection (for various reasons) is pre-recorded so we are not able to take requests at the time of transmission currently.
